Ryan Mathiesen is no longer some insider tip when it comes to fresh, underground Berlin DJ’s. With his forward-looking and refreshingly unconventional sets he quickly earned residencies at Arena Club, Kater Holzig and the new Chalet Club, where he holds his current residency. But not just another DJ, Ryan is also a new school producer and lyricist.

Grown up in Vancouver, Canada on classic rock and hits from the 40s, 50s and 60s, he had already began assembling mix-tapes for his friends and family at the age of 10. Ryan has always been heavily occupied with collecting music of all kinds and styles, perpetually seeking out fresh sounds and undiscovered artists, and taking a special interest in funk, disco, rock, downtempo electronica and then eventually slow and deep house.

While pursuing university studies in philosophy and psychology during the day, at night Ryan taught himself how to play guitar and started writing his own songs. Soon after he was introduced to the world of Logic and quickly began producing. Then at some point in 2008 Ryan realized that he was transitioning from being a mere music lover and collector to being a composer and DJ.

After having relocated to Berlin in 2009, it became increasingly clear that his future profession lie in a special mix of DJ'ing, producing and text writing. In 2010 he created a live show with a vocalist and Abelton to showcase some of the songs he had composed. Pleased with the positive feedback from the audience, yet unsatisfied with both the mode of delivery and production quality, he went back into the studio to remix and further refine his compositions.

By late 2011, his greatly improved DJ'ing skills and burgeoning music collection gave Ryan the confidence and opportunity to play bigger venues. Ryan developed a unique main room sound that has been deftly activating Berlin and Hamburg dance floors for well over a year. With his unique blend of deep house, nu-disco and organic tech-house, he struck a nerve in the increasingly bored party scene that longs for more depth and musical feeling.

As a text writer for Jan Blomqvist, over the past 2 years he played an important role in creating club hits on labels like Stil vor Talent, Dantze and Hive Audio, and is currently working hard to help Jan finish his debut LP. In November 2012 Jan and Ryan started the side project Jane Daar, a DJ team with live vocals from Jan. They were immediately asked to give a sample set for Electronic Beats Radio on Fluxfm. They have since played electrifying sets at Cookies, Chalet, and Hive Club in Zurich. Ryan has also joined forces with legendary Hamburg producer and DJ, Philipp Wolgast to create an EP of sample-based deep house tributes to mutual musical heroes. Ryan is also close to finishing 10 new original tracks, one of which has already been signed for release on Igloo Records. And with his new productions and collaborations in the next months he will create a fresh live club set that will include instrumentalists as well as vocalists.
